I bought my car in April 2005, from somebody whom I’ve known for a few years. We are both in the RAF together and were both based at RAF Coltishall, near Norwich. I assumed he had looked after in whilst it was in his care, and the full VAG history lead me to believe that I was correct in my assumptions.

He had added Koni TA’s, Eibach springs, Magnex stainless exhaust, Tar-Ox grooved discs, Green stuff pads and braided brake hoses.

However, he told me that he had had “some engine work” done by a local garage in the not too distant past (off the books). This was due to him having a water leak on the motorway, and needing the head redoing. Which wasn’t really a problem, as the garage had said that if there were any further problems, to take it back and they’ll sort it out.

I was now living in Blackpool but I decided to go for it, and £4000 later I owned my second Corrado VR6!!

Then on one outing, a couple of days later, the engine started making all sort of clanging! I pulled over immediately, and thought it must be something to do with the tappets (or should I say “hoped”?!).

I got the car back to the “local” garage in Norwich, they immediately diagnosed it as being the tappets, phew, and also said they’d sort it. I received a phone call telling me that the car was sorted.

Jobs a good un. Or so I thought!!

On the return journey I could hear a slight tapping at about 2500 revs, but couldn’t put my finger on it. I didn’t know what to do next. Do I drive all the way back to Norwich? Or do I pay a fortune to get some local company to look at it? I asked a friend for some advice, and he has been on the VAG scene for years, and he recommended I speak to some Guy called Andy Walker. So I did.

I travelled down to Stoke on a Monday morning, hoping for the best. I met Andy at his new workshop where he was just starting up his new venture in PSI Tuning. He started my car, and within 10 seconds told me it was the bottom end!!

“At best it could be a worn shell, at worst it could be a bottom end rebuild.”
